IRS Rejection Code F7004-904-01
Form 7004, the tax year ending date (TaxPeriodEndDt
specified in the Return Header) must match the data in the e-file database unless one of the checkboxes in Line 5b ("Initial Return," "Final Return," or "Consolidated return to be filed") is checked.
Explanation
This rejection occurs when the tax year ending date you entered on Form 7004 does not match what the IRS has on record. It is especially common for newly formed businesses.
If this is your first year filing taxes for your business, the IRS generally requires you to use a calendar year for tax purposes. In that case:
- Enter your business start date as the "Beginning" date.
- Use December 31 as your "Ending" date.
- Check the box for Initial Return to indicate that your tax year is less than 12 months.
If your business has filed taxes in prior years, review your filings to ensure your tax year matches IRS records. Some businesses may use a fiscal year that differs from the calendar year.
