2025 tax season: filings closed

Filings are closed for the 2025 tax season. We are not accepting 2025 tax returns or tax extension filings through our websites.

This closure applies to personal and business filings, including submission or resubmission. Sign-in, tax-year selection and correction instructions do not make 2025 filing available during the closure.

The next filing season is expected to open in mid-to-late January 2027. The exact opening date and supported tax years will be confirmed separately; this does not mean 2025 filing will reopen.

The general instructions below apply only when filing is open and the relevant tax year is supported.

To finish a draft tax extension, sign in and open My Tax Filings. Locate the filing marked Draft for the correct tax year and filing type, complete any missing information, and review your details.

For electronic filing, proceed through checkout and complete the service-fee payment. If payment is declined, the extension is not transmitted to the IRS. After successful payment, federal extensions are normally transmitted within five minutes, often immediately.

Check My Tax Filings for the IRS status: Accepted by IRS, Pending, or Rejected. Transmission is not the same as IRS acceptance. If Pending remains for more than an hour, contact Support.

If you chose a print-and-mail option, download the form and follow its mailing instructions. Printing alone does not file the extension.
