How does One Click Extension (OCE) work?

Modified on Sun, 18 Oct at 12:06 PM

One Click Extension (OCE) lets returning customers reuse information from a previous extension instead of entering it again.

Service fee and IRS tax payment are separate. Payment at our checkout covers the extension filing service. It does not pay your IRS tax balance.

When filing through our process, choose one of these options for any tax you owe:

  • Authorize a direct debit from your checking account (Electronic Funds Withdrawal, or EFW) in the secure filing form.
  • Mail a check to the IRS separately, following the current IRS instructions for your form and tax year.
  • Choose no IRS payment through our filing process. Any tax due is still owed by the IRS payment deadline; an extension gives more time to file, not more time to pay.

PayPal, credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Venmo may be offered at checkout to pay our service fee for the extension filing. Those checkout methods do not pay your IRS tax balance through our filing process.

  1. Sign in to your account and locate the option to file another extension using your previous information.
  2. Review the prefilled taxpayer and filing details, and make any necessary corrections.
  3. Proceed to checkout and choose an available method to pay the service fee.
  4. Complete checkout. We transmit the extension to the IRS after the service-fee payment succeeds, generally within five minutes and sometimes immediately.
  5. Check My Tax Filings for the IRS status. Transmission does not guarantee IRS acceptance.

If a saved card is expired or declined, use another available checkout method. A declined service-fee payment does not result in an IRS transmission.

Before making any separate IRS payment, check whether an EFW withdrawal is already scheduled or completed. If you want to pay the IRS separately, follow the current instructions on the IRS Payments page.
